The Endless Voyage

by Rada Skumova, Suzanne Lub

Willem de Kooning Academy, Netherlands

Synopsis

Through satire and handcrafted sets, The Endless Voyage explores wealth disparity, survivalism, and humanity’s disconnection from the natural environment. The film follows a vessel that echoes Noah’s Ark, but inverts it's meaning entirely. Instead of saving humanity and other species, the ship carries only one: the ultra-rich, fleeing an apocalypse they themselves helped create. As land appears on the horizon, it is immediately reduced to another property to be acquired and controlled. While the flood rises around them, the elites remain fixated on preserving the illusion of prosperity, unable, or unwilling, to recognize nature’s protest as either divine punishment or the consequence of their own actions. How long can this ark survive if it's course refuses to change?

Director's biography

Rada Skumova

Willem de Kooning Graduate in Animation. With a traditional art background acquired at Sofia’s National School of Fine Arts “Iliya Petrov” specializing in illustration, where her passion for storytelling begins. Later during an internship with the Swedish filmmaker Anna Mantzaris on her short film PLEASE she develops her skills in puppet making and discovers stop-motion animation as the perfect medium to translate her ideas. Following the internship, she joins a stop-motion course where, together with 4 other creatives, developes What’s on Your Mind?, a fantastical surreal short about wrong impressions and justifying guilt.

Suzanne Lub

Willem de Kooning Academy graduate in Audiovisual Media. Her desire for world building began through filmmaking, but over the years she found herself drawn to the handmade possibilities of analog animation which she further developed at her internship at Studio Dwarf in Tokyo. Stopmotion projects for Zure Melk (2023) and Movies That Matter festival (2024) brewed a growing love for the medium, eventually leading her to discover claymation and develop her own project, Lamb (2025).
