Posterity

by Emil Alexandrov
National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts, Bulgaria

Jury Motivation by Phil Peters

Posterity is a thought-provoking film which challenges us and makes us ponder the age-old question of a father and son relationship and a hesitant son’s rite of passage. The editing and sound design create an anticipation of dread which is subtle and not overbearing. This tense story’s cinematography juxtaposes the beautiful lush vibrant greenery and tranquil sounds of birds of the primeval Bulgarian forest with the world of human violence and fragility.  The Director shows us these two worlds, and leaves us with the message that Man and his ego is simply an unwelcome intruder in this natural world.

Synopsis

A son and a father go hunting deep in the woods. Trying to prove his courage, the son makes a fatal mistake.
