Director's biography
Filip Karaivanov (born 03.03.1999. in Sofia, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian animation director and animator.
Bachelor of "Animation Cinema". He enrolled in the “Animation Cinema” program in 2019, after a brief detour into engineering at the Technical University of Sofia – where sketchbooks smuggled into lectures ultimately proved more compelling than mechatronics. With years of encouragement from colleagues and friends, Filip became part of a close-knit community through which he was able to develop both his artistic and technical skills.
He created a short rotoscope film titled “Dance", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the New Bulgarian University. He participated twice in the annual 10x10 Marathon organized by NBU, which involves making ten short films in ten days.
He also took part twice in a summer animation workshop organized by NBU held annually for over 10 years in the village of Varvara. Filip won a "special jury award" (for compeling style and thematic) together with Radostin Stefanov at the Theophrastus Character Contest held at the New Bulgarian Universityfor the film “The Boaster”. A year later, at the same event, he and his colleagues Teodor Ralev and Veselin Damianov completed the animated movie “The Evilspeaker”. Their dedicated work was recognized, and they received both the jury's and the audience's first prize.
Filip also contributed to the film “The Longstocking Cake” as a clean-up artist, created by Blagoslava Kirilova, Denislava Georgieva and Evgeni Ganchev.
Raindrops (2026) is his graduation film.
